    Woman arrested for smuggling cellphone into prison

    Police in Nkhata Bay District are keeping in custody a 33-year-old woman, Leah Banda, for allegedly smuggling a cell-phone into Nkhata Bay prison meant for her husband who is remanded at the prison for theft by servant.

    According to report from the prison officials, Kamanga who is the former head teacher of Mtazi Primary School in the district, was arrested for squandering money amounting to K11,000,000 (Eleven Million Malawi Kwacha) meant for developmental project at the school. Kamanga set the plan with his wife to bring the phone into the prison by hiding it inside a wireless radio.

    Police Chief applauds SARPCCO games for police networking in SADC

    The Inspector General of the Malawi Police Service, Mrs. Merlyn Yolamu, PPM, has hailed the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (SARPCCO) games for fostering interactions among national police institutions in the fight against transnational crimes.

    She cited human trafficking and illegal immigration as common transnational crimes that need cooperation among SADC police institutions.

    Yolamu made the remarks when she hosted a reception for the returning Malawi Police teams that participated in the 11th SARPCCO Games, 2022, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

    Mrs. Yolamu was born on 18th August in 1963.

About Us

Malawi Police Service (MPS) is a Malawi Government organ under the Ministry of Homeland Security. Our operations are provided for under the laws of Malawi, notably in the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi and the Malawi Police Service Act.

MPS is overseen by the Inspector General (IG) who is appointed by the State President and confirmed by the Public Appointments Committee of the National Assembly. The IG is assisted by two deputies who run the administration and operations, respectively.
